First off Actavision revealed that Spider Man 3 Revolution is being developed from the ground up in order to take advantage of the Revolution Controller.

Also it is now officially and definitely confirmed that Animal Crossing Revolution is in the works. Series producer Katsuya Eguch today talked about Animal Crossing DS, and of course, Animal Crossing Revolution. He stated that they are looking into the different things they could do in Animal Crossing for the Revolution.

My bro picked it up for me while he was at work since my pre-order still hadn't shipped. It's funny how I pre-order it from, online fromWal-Mart but then ended up just picking it up at the store. Crazy stuff.

I managed to squeeze in some singleplayer play and also played a few online matches. I just have one thing to say, THIS GAME KICKS BASS! The graphics in the game are incredibly detailed, and aiming with the touch screen is almost as good as the old keyboard and mouse. Although I'll hold off on my final impressions till I review in around a week, I'd just like to say that Hunters online totally blows away Mario Kart, it's that good.

Also I took plenty of pictures of me opening the the package and will make up a documentary for the new site when it launches.

GDC Conference Coverage

Okay, sorry for not updating live through out Iwatas speach, I was to busy with other things, so, I apologize. If you have a suggestion for the improved Revo-News leave it in the comments box.

Also in other news, Metroid Prime Hunters scored a 9.0 from IGN. you can read their full review HERE.

Metroid(R) Prime Hunters is Nintendo’s first real first-person shooter for Nintendo DS(TM), while Tetris(R) DS features classic puzzle action remixed with retro Nintendo themes. Both games launch today, and both are playable on Nintendo(R) Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo’s wireless gaming service. Together they reinforce Nintendo’s commitment to making games that appeal to both hard-core and casual gamers.

“These two games really showcase the range of abilities of the world’s favorite new portable game system,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “They will further help drive Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection as the hottest Wi-Fi format ever introduced to games.” In Metroid Prime Hunters, the legendary Metroid franchise continues with new hunters, new abilities, new weapons and new alternate forms. Withworldwide Wi-Fi connectivity, there’s always a band of hunters eager to challenge a player’s skills. Metroid Prime Hunters is also the first Nintendo DS game to offer real-time voice chat, letting players talk to one another before and after they face off in a multiplayer match. The chat technology functions much like a two-way radio and lets players intimidate opponents with some friendly trash talk. With this free service, players who have exchanged their Nintendo DS friend codes can converse through Nintendo DS across the Americas. Players must be logged on to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to use the chat feature.

Metroid Prime Hunters lets players battle in more than 20 action-packed arenas across seven multiplayer modes, including Battle, Capture, Bounty, Survival, Defender and Nodes, as well as the exciting Prime Hunter mode, where players battle to become the most powerful hunter in the arena. New hunters join the Metroid universe, including Trace, Sylux, Noxus, Spire,Kanden and Weavel, all battling against Samus in both single-player and multiplayer games. Each new hunter has a unique background, fighting style and individual alt forms to match up against Samus’ Morphball.

Not to be outdone, Tetris DS includes six modes, each based on a theme from a famous Nintendo character or game. The classic block-building game finds new ways to entertain. Some of the modes make use of the Nintendo DS touch screen. Newcomers and longtime fans alike will find new surprises. Using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, up to four players compete in two- orfour-player battles against friends or strangers. And with just one game card, up to 10 players can clash using DS Download Play.

New Super Mario Bros Features 80 Levels

For those of you who enjoyed the huge amount of levels in Mario 3 for the NES New Super Mario Bros is for you. This new hands on and video footage, from IGN, made it even worse. Now as you read this I am currently trapped in my attic waiting for rescue workers to break me out.

Craig Harris from IGN gave a basic run down of the game in the preview, talking on things such as controls, gameplay, and of course the games marvelous graphics. Craig Harris is quoted as saying "Many people put the Nintendo DS up around the Nintendo 64 capabilities, but honestly, I can't recall any N64 game looking this good". Mighty strong words, especially for a system being called by many "underpowered".

Click the link below to check out the full preview and also 10 minutes of direct feed footage. I personally held back on watching some of the footage just not to spoil anything. ;) I'll have a review up sometime early next month.

The problems with the site were due to me trying to import all my Blogger posts into Wordpress. Stupid wordpress screwed up the entire site after doing so, and it turns out it didn't import all the posts it was supposed to anyway.

But anyways I managed to find some good hosting to put the site on, and as you might have guessed, we will be switching over to Wordpress. This will make it much easier for all of you to post comments and I'll also be able to have a page dedicated to special features and the Reggie Pic of the Week. Also with the switch will come a much better cleaner site design. And the best part is the adress will now be www.revo-news.com

So just hang in there everybody, I'm working as fast as I can to get the new site up. It should be up sometime next week. See ya.

Pandemic Studios on Revolution

Today IGN posted an interview with a member of Pandemic Studios, the company best known for Full Spectrum Warrior and Star Wars Battlefront, about the Nintendo Revolution and their plans for the system. Check out a little snippet from the interview then follow the link for the full article.

IGN Revolution: What do you think of Nintendo’s Revolution controller?

Greg Borrud: Everyone around here is pretty excited about it. We’ve just started thinking about how we could use it with our games and there are a lot of interesting ideas that are coming up. I think the new controller has huge potential to push games in more exciting directions than just having better graphics. That said - I’m hoping the controller will prove more than a novelty. It remains to be seen if it can play like a traditional controller while offering all the unique aspects that make it so attractive. I think it will need to be able to do both well or else it could become regarded as a niche product.

Though no specifics were given at least now we have confirmation. Check out a small clip from the interview then follow the link to the full one.

OK, time to switch to Miyamoto’s other famous creation: Zelda. What’s the latest on Twilight Princess?

“I would say that we are progressing well with completing it,” says Miyamoto. “And one of the most important features is that, because Revolution can run GameCube software, when you play Twilight Princess on Revolution you can take advantage of the Revolution controller.”

As most of you know the PS3 has been officially delayed in Japan until November. They claim this is because of problems with the Blu-Ray copy protection system but I think otherwise. The following photo shows Reggie Fils-Aime fleeing the scene of Sony HQ blowing to pieces. Copy protection or Reggie? I think this photo makes it pretty clear.

Why dost though torture us with such agonizingly cheap Nintendo shows. *sob*

DVDInsider: I am the producer of the DVD line of DiC titles at Shout! Factory, beginning with the recent COPS: The Animated Series. For the past couple of days, I’ve been going around the net researching Captain N: The Game Master, because I will, in fact, be producing it for OFFICIAL release (so, PLEASE stop any and all bootlegging you may be working on) later in the year.

I’d like to clear up a few things that I’ve noticed posted here and a couple of other sites. For starters, Shout! isn’t owned by Sony. Sony is our distributor, so for a small percentage, Sony stocks retailers with our product. Shout! Factory is owned by Richard Foos (the founder of Rhino), his brother Garson, and Bob Emmer.

Secondly, regarding Captain N’s masters…

I’m dealing with DiC even as I write this and the masters are in excellent condition. There’s virtually NO difference between a production master and a broadcast master when you’re dealing with animation. The major difference is that a broadcast master has several minutes of black where the commercials should be. Therefore, the masters I’m working with look as good as any that were “destroyed” when Disney took over.

I’m actually in the process of putting together a list of possible special features. While the lists I receive from people are in no way guaranteed extras– because as people have mentioned, Captain N isn’t a show on which most companies can spend a LARGE amount of money and expect a return–, I would very much like to hear what the fans are looking for.

If you’re interested in throwing out suggestions, please do so here. Do not email me, as I’m working on far too many projects to look and answer a ton of emails from fans. But I assure you, as you can witness in other forums around the web, that I will check back and respond here OFTEN.

Thanks in advance and tell all your friends that the Captain’s finally coming to DVD!

Twilight Princess Cake

It’s easy to tell when your body is out of shape, but what about your brain? International Brain Awareness Week begins March 13 as baby boomers and others are looking for the best way to exercise their brains.

Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day for Nintendo DS™ launches April 17 on the heels of the week designed to increase public awareness about the brain. Users write their answers or draw a picture on the portable Nintendo DS touch screen to keep their “DS brains” young and fit by performing mental activities quickly.

Dr. Elizabeth Zelinski, dean and executive director of University of Southern California’s Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, says games like Brain Age can help keep older generations of Americans’ minds active. “Americans can do a great deal to maintain and even improve their mental abilities,” Zelinski explains. “Aging is about taking on new challenges for our minds. Nintendo’s Brain Age is a great way to do that.”

Americans of all ages are always looking for ways to get a mental edge and Brain Age acts as a treadmill for the mind.

In Brain Age, first-time users take a few tests to establish their DS brain age. Holding the DS like a book, users perform activities like drawing lines to connect letters and numbers in order, counting the syllables in well-known phrases and other brain-stimulating activities. Sharing a game card allows users to compare their results with family and friends.

Let's all give a big cheer to Nintendo for achieving such tremendous success! So in honor of this occasion I have written a poem.

The number one million is quite alot,
for that is the number of players you've got.
You're getting closer to two million there,
now give me Metroid or I'll rip out your hair.

Thank you, thank you. Okay it wasn't the greatest but it was the best I could do on the fly. While it's not the best boxart I think most people will agree with me on the fact that it's better than the Mario Kart DS boxart.

The game will feature 4 main quests and around 20 mini quests. The bottom screen will be used to interact with objects, solve puzzles, and use items that you have collected through out your adventure. The bottom screen will also be used for interrogating witnesses while the top screen shows what's being talked about.

No knews wether this game will se a release outside of Japan. Check out what the president had to say about the game below.

“Online capabilities, magnificent graphics, and an intense use of the revolutionary control of the platform.”
Square-Enix President - Youichi Wada

Sounds pretty good to me. Especially online play. Something that wasn't mentioned here though is that Crystal Chronicles will reach the US by the end of the year meaning it will be a luanch title here. Now let's hope that they decide to release info on the DS version sometime within the next millenia.

Lost Magic Finds Its Self at NWFC Site.

Alright I guess I'll quit with the puns. Nintendo just updated the NWFC site with a page for the upcoming game lost magic. The page doesn't currently feature much information but you should keep checking it as it comes closer to release.

Lost Magic is a mix of RPG and RTS. The player can use the stylus to cast over 150 different different spells as they battle monsters in RTS gameplay.

Lost Magic drops in to stores either March 20th or April 18th.

The following was taken from a recent gamespot article.

One of the phrases every Nintendo fan is anxious to hear is “We will have a Revolution title this year.” Those exact words were spoken by the CEO of Midway Games, David Zucker, in a one-on-one conversation with GameSpot yesterday.

There is a mode called Rival Radar, which is similar to a feature in Nintendogs - you take your DS out in public and have it hunt down other Metroid Hunters players. Once you get home, you open the DS and you’ve got some new prey to blast online.

A feature called the ‘Hunter Licence’ records the results of multiplayer games played in Hunters. It records statistics such as how frequently a weapon is used, and Alt Forms used to defeat enemies. [Alt Forms are the rival bounty hunters’ equivalent of Samus’ Morph Ball - Ed.] When players make Friends and Rivals in Wi-Fi mode, they can check each other’s Hunter Licences. Each player’s skill is indicated by the number of stars they have, which increases and decreases depending on the performance of the player.

Hunters sits somewhere between Prime 1 and Prime 2. Samus wears the suit found in Echoes but will be piloting the ship she flew in Prime 1.

Samus shows up fully powered, but will still need to augment her Power Beam with the Hunters’ weapons in order to progress through the different worlds.

The single player game is divided into four worlds, and the player travels between the worlds in Samus’ ship. In each world Samus battles with enemies and solves puzzles, while trying to figure out what’s going on in the Alimbic Cluster. There is more than one way to complete the four worlds, so the player can choose his/her own path through the game. Each world has a unique character and individual game elements.

To create balance we decided on the character setting to make every single hunter unique. Then, we started brainstorming for Alt Forms and weapons from there. We implemented those ideas in the game, tested them, and adjusted them over and over - I thought it would never end! However, the never-ending (but we finished!) adjustment and test play, in the end, brought out a well-balanced game. There are a lot of ideas that we couldn’t implement in this game, unfortunately. But if you, Metroid fans, request for a sequel for this game, we might be able to add these unused ideas to it.

The new Metroid(R) Prime Hunters launches March 20 and is an action-packed first-person adventure game for Nintendo DS(TM). Up to four players can play wireless matches locally or using Nintendo(R) Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo’s wireless gaming network, which lets them hook up with friends or battle strangers. Each gamer also gets a Hunters License, which keeps trackof key game-play stats and lets opponents size up one another before a match. Nintendo DS owners also will soon let their voices be heard as the title features wireless voice chat technology that lets players talk to one another before and after they face off.

Ever since the demo version of Metroid Prime Hunters came bundled with the first Nintendo DS systems, gamers have been eager to get their hands on the full game. Their patience has paid off. With new bounty hunters, precision touch-screen controls, wireless Wi-Fi battles and voice chat, Nintendo introduces a new level of creativity and fun to this storied franchise.

My first review is of True Swing Golf. Check it out.

True Swing Golf
Up until I played this at a Wal-Mart kiosk today I was never thrilled with golf games. All the ones I had tried such as golf for the NES or Hot Shots Golf for PSP either had confusing controls or just weren't fun. But True Swing Golf has changed my view on golf games by making a simple yet fun game with intuitive controls.

Gameplay
The main point of True Swing is just like any other golf game, hit the ball into a teeny little hole. But True Swing offers up a control system for this that not only makes it easy but fun. You first start off by using the touch screen to point in the direction you want to hit the golf ball. Once you have found the perfect spot button the press the "Swing" button and a close up shot of your club and the ball will be displayed on the bottom screen. The stylus is used to move the golf club. For anybody who has played either of the turtle shell mini-games in Mario 64 DS you'll know what swinging the golf club is like. But for those who have never played it, you hold the stylus on the screen and drag the club into the golf ball. The faster you swing the more power you will get. Also you can change the direction of the head of the golf club to alter the course of the golf ball. All of this is done very intuitively and couldn't be simpler. In fact it's so simple the instant I started playing I was like "Oh! I know how you do this".

But with this new system there are also downsides. Using the stylus to choose where you want the golf ball to head is a bit tricky to get it where you want it. Also when swinging your golf club there's no real way to tell how much power you're putting in to it. These are all minor problems though and for the most part don't detract from the game.

Graphics
The graphics in True Swing are some what of a mixed bag. On one hand you have excellent animation and beautiful courses. But on the other hand the characters lack detail and there are also some muddy textures. The real problem with character detail is on the heads where there faces look like indiscernible blobs of monkey doo. The texture problems mainly come in on the ground where they used a very low res texture. Although the game has these problems it is out weighed with a consistent 30 frames per second.

Sound and Music
Now you may be thinking "It's a golf game there is no music," but True Swing is actually one of the few golf games that does have music... although I wish it didn't. The music for the game is unusually peppy and get's annoying after the first minute. I thought it would be much better if it just played bird chirping which would let you relax and concentrate more easily. I was very happy when I got close enough to the hole to where the music stopped. As far as sound goes it sounded just just as a golf game should with the sounds of clubs swinging and balls being hit. Overall average in this area.

Closing Comments
Overall True Swing is an excellent game. The new swing system makes me want to actually buy this game... when it goes on sale. To tell you the truth I'm not much of a golf guy, but this game has made me start to think that not all golf games are bad or confusing.

Breakdown
Gameplay - 9/10
Graphics - 7.5/10
Sound - 6/10

I give this game an 8/10!

Tales of Tempest Screens.

Today we've got more new screens of Namcos upcoming RPG Tales of Tempest. According to IGN there have so far been three versions of Revolution dev kits. Version one was literally a gamecube with a wired Rev controller, version two was the same thing with a few minor tweaks, and version three was an actual Rev proto-type with the wireless controllers implamented.

But according to some major companys they have recieved a version three and a half if you will. These kits have closer to final hardware and offer something more similar to what it's like to develop rev games. Apparently fourth version dev kits will be sent out sometime within the next couple, of which these will have 90% - 95% the performance of the actual unit.

Devs also stated that these current dev kits cost only $2000 per. Now before you shoot through the roof in shock this is actually quite cheap for a dev kit, thousands of dollars cheaper then a PSP SDK.

Nintendo stated that finalized dev-kits will be made widely availible by June in time for the Revolution launch.

Stay tuned to Revo-News for more info as it arrives.

Children of Mana Famitsu Scores.

Yesterday the weekly video gaming publication, Famitsu, reviewed the upcoming Square game Children of Mana. Now let's give a shout out one of the greatest franchises of all time for all the adventure they brought to our worlds. I remember playing my first zelda game when I was but a wee five year old, trying to make it through the 4th palace in the original game. It really brings back memorys.

Also I'd like to say thank you to all the people who visit this site. Even though there aren't many of you I'd just like to say thanks for taking the time to view my site and I hope you come back.

Two of Nintendo's big employees made the cut, the first one being none other than Shigeru Miyamoto. This comes as no surprise as Miyamoto is the man responsible for such franchises as Zelda and Mario.

The next is Satoru Iwata who Wall Street Journal says is, “shunning the battle between Microsoft and Sony for domination of the living room.”

Seeing these two make the cut shows that Nintendo has some of the greatest minds in the industry.

EGM Twilight Princess Scan.

Here is a scan from Joystiq with some interesting stuff about TP. Once again nothing major but there are still some juicy little tid bits in there.

Engadget - Now how do you respond to some of the criticisms of the service (Wi-fi connection), like the lack of persistent friends?

Reggie - Well, a couple of things. First the number of concerns or questions that have been raised by consumers who use the service are extremely modest. I mean we are talking hundredths of a percent of actual connections in terms of any consumers who are saying something negative about the service or the approach.

And the second point, in terms of having to have new friend codes for every game, quite frankly, what that does is put control in the hands of the gamer. So there are some people that I want to let into my house with Animal Crossing and others that I don’t, and that friend code set up allows me to manage that title by title. We think that’s the appropriate way to go.

Engadget - Where is Nintendo right now with the development of the Revolution?

Reggie - We have been sharing the controller mechanics with developers across the world. We have shipped over a thousand controller dev kits to developers so that they can begin getting experience with the controller mechanics. The response to the controller has been fantastic. Developers are truly embracing the innovation. They’re embracing the approach and quite frankly, they’re embracing our vision; our vision of creating games that are as sophisticated as the core gamer wants it to be but could also be as straightforward and as accessible as brand new gamers. And that vision, that strategy is what Nintendo is all about. We want to create a system with Revolution that appeals to all types of gamers versus going down a path that, frankly, is a bit exclusionary.

Engadget - You mean in terms of the competition and what they’re doing?

Reggie - Exactly. They have gone down a path that is very expensive for consumers, very expensive for developers to create content against, and they’re providing a level of horsepower technology that not many consumers want. We in providing to consumers and to developers an approach that is certainly high-tech and certainly powerful enough to create the most sophisticated games, but also has an approach that is open for developers to create whatever type of content they want.

Engadget - Nintendo has said all along that the Game Boy and the DS are of parallel platforms and that the DS is not the next Game Boy, but how long will it be until we see a new Game Boy come out?

Reggie - You know, that’s a great question better posed to Mr. Iwata. From my perspective, our focus is on driving Nintendo DS, launching the plethora of titles that we have coming up for this platform over the next time period, as well as driving Game Cube successfully until the Revolution launch, as well as driving Game Boy Advance.

We’ve just talked to retailers about some new titles coming for Game Boy Advance; obviously Drill Dozer has just launched and is getting very positive reviews out in the marketplace. Our plan continues to be to support all three lines of our business; the home console, DS, as well as Game Boy Advance.

Engadget - (Speaking of new franchises on Revolution) Something that will be as big as a Nintendogs or a Zelda?

Reggie - That is certainly the goal, but you’ll have to tell me when you see it at E3. We will be showing a lot of information about Revolution at E3. You know we’ve said publicly that this year’s E3 will be Revolution’s coming out party. Now, we’ve also been quite clear that there are innovations inherent in Revolution that we will be sharing ongoing. That it is simply not a one time event for us to share information about Revolution and all of its innovation. I have seen blog entries on your site and other sites that criticize us for that, but quite frankly, it’s just good business. In terms of letting the consumer know what’s involved and sharing that information all the way up until launch.

Engadget - Is Revolution going to be the final name or is it still a code name?

Reggie - It is still a code name.

Engadget - Will you unveil the new name at E3?

Reggie - Maybe.

Engadget - I know we don’t have a ton of time left, so one of the last things I wanted to ask you about was about how Sony and Microsoft are positioning their new consoles as multimedia digital entertainment devices in addition to gaming devices, something which Nintendo has not emphasized. Sony talks about the PSP and how it can play music and video, and while the DS can have those capabilities, it’s not something Nintendo talks about very much. What is Nintendo’s philosophy about all this stuff going forward? Do you see multimedia as a distraction from gaming?

Reggie - Our philosophy is that consumers want great gaming experiences and our passion is delivering great gaming experiences. In the home console space, we believe that the best way to do that is with a dedicated machine. In the handheld space, as you’ve said, the DS does have other capabilities in the multimedia area, but we believe it’s important to first establish its credentials as a superb game playing device.

To be perfectly clear, the Microsoft and Sony strategies are based on overall corporate objectives versus what’s right for the consumer. That’s a reality. Microsoft is essentially trying to get you to put a PC in your living room because they are fundamentally a PC software company. Sony is trying to get you to put an entertainment hub that has Blu-ray technology because that’s important to their movie business and the rest of their entire electronics business.

We are a gaming company. We are gamers at heart. We love creating great, innovative content and superbly designed hardware, that’s what we do. And with that passion comes a laser like focus to do things that are right for the consumer and right for the business. That’s the fundamental difference in our strategy versus our competition.

On Spike TV's game heads show Reggie stated that Twilight Princess will not be hitting shelves until sometime this fall making it a long wait. He also stated the game will be a GameCube only game putting down any rumors it's being moved to Revolution.

Reggie also talked about the Revolution stating that it will indeed be launching this year. He said to keep an eye on Nintendo's May 9th E3 press conference for more information on the release date.

Also once the DS Lite comes in out goes the original. Reggie didn't say a specific release date but the DS Lite should be coming to the States somewhere in Auguts/September.

The Weapons of Worms.

Until today I didn't know what this game was about until I downloaded the demo and saw. And now I am completely thrilled for this title, simply because it promises to bring together squishy little things that live in dirt, and high tech weaponry. I'm hoping that this game turns out as good as 1 and 2. :D Anyways today IGN ran an article outlining each of the weapons in Worms: Open Warfare for the Nintendo DS. Take a look by clicking the link below.

But what everybody doesn't know is wether or not the software will ever make it out of Japan. Well to try and answer this question I fired off a letter to NOA asking them if it would ever come to America. There reply can be seen below.

Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,Thanks for sharing your interest in the Nintendo DS Lite and the web browser. As you already know, that game has been announced for release in Japan. So far, there hasn't been an official announcement of a release outside of that market.

There are many reasons that Nintendo or any other Japanese publisher may decide to release a product solely for the Japanese market. These can include difficulty or cost of localization, the size and financial strength of the publisher, and (most often) the idea that the product will simply not be accepted or enjoyed in other markets.

However, there are (like you) real fans of those games or products in this market who would love nothing more than to see these products on store shelves here. I understand (and sometimes even share) your frustration! Having said that, please understand that those fans constitute a very small portion of the gaming public, too small to justify the costs associated with bringing a product here.

Of course, you never know what the future holds, as evidenced by the appearance in this market of previously Japan-only franchises like Advance Wars and Fire Emblem. Keep an eye on our website (http://www.nintendo.com/newsmain) for all the latest news as it becomes available.

Thanks for your email and good luck with all your games!Nintendo of America Inc.
Bruce Mann

What does this mean to Nintendo fans? Well it basically just depends on the conditions. If there is a large amount of gamers in America looking forward to this game chances are that it will make it over, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Japanes Weekly sales 2/06 - 2/12.

The latest japanese sales figures are in and Nintendo is finally seeing the nasty effects of the DS shortages with it coming in 3rd with only 10k units sold.
